SOUTHERN TOUR OF MADAGASCAR

Reception at the airport by Mada Nosy-Be Tourism Staff and transfer to the hotel. Diner and overnight at the Hotel .

We start our journey towards the city tour of Antananarivo and then we get the way to the Eastern part of the island. we will stop in Marozevo at the Peyreras reserve which is known for its lemurs and reptiles. We will spend a couple of hours in that reserve during which you may observe how the chameleons capture their prey with their long tongue. We reach the Andasibe National Park by the end of the day and visit of the park that same evening to discover some nocturnal animals at VOI MMA community.

The forest of the Andasibe Mantadia Park is home to 108 species of birds ,14 species of lemurs in there , 51 species , and 84 species of amphibians. At 7:00am, we will reach the entrance of the Andasibe-Mantadia National park. We will hike in the rain forest to track lemurs and at the same time see various species of plants, trees, insects and reptiles. We will also explore the famous Vakonaisland for close up experiences and many photo opportunities with the animals. we discover the area of many species of lemurs in the forest mainly the Indri Indri, the biggest lemur on the Island. 

After breakfast, we drive to Antsirabe. On the road we will enjoy the scenery of the highland with terraced ricefield. In Ambatolampy which is situated on the halfway to Antsirabe were we stop to visit a workshop which makes pots with recycled products as row materials. Upon arrival in Antsirabe, check in at the hotel, before visiting the city to see gemstones shops, horns of zebu and miniatures workshops. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Departure early in the morning for visit at the kirindy reserve, get way back to Morondava. We make a stop in sacret baobab at Kirindy Village and then we continue to Sunset in the famous baobab alley. Arrival in Morondava at the end of the afternoon.

After breakfast we will get the way to Antsirabe. We leave the region of the Menabe to return in the highlands. En route, we will have the opportunity to make several stops to photograph the hilly landscapes of Madagascar’s Midwest. During the whole afternoon, we will make a few stops to enjoy the views over the rice fields, the mountains and the traditional villages of the highlands.

We continue our journey heading south across the highlands to reach Ambositra, the Malagasy handicrafts’capital located 105 km from Antsirabe. In this city known for its woodcarving Zafimaniry Art, we will visit different handcrafter workshops. We will have lunch in this city during which some folkloric dancers and musicians will perform a show. We will drive to the rainforest of Ranomafana.

Wildlife safari , searching for endemics, such as the critically , endangered greater bamboo lemur, and other species namely Golden Bamboo lemur, Milne Edward’s sifaka and Plan a picnic lunch in the park then searching for more endemic Lemurs like rebilled lemurs , Common Lemurs , Geckos , insect giraffe necked , birds and plant species , then observe the water fall , then continue slowly down to visit the village and , plantation ,vanilla , coffee , cassava, to see the local way of life people . Overnight at Ranomafana National Park Camping in the Park

After breakfast, we continue our road trip with the majestic Andringitra in the background. We leave the highlands of Madagascar and enter a new microclimate: the dry bush and semi desert of southern Madagascar. We will visit the Anja Reserve, managed by the local community of villagers. This reserve is home to many unique species of lemurs including the very famous ring tailed lemur. We will transfer you to your hotel in the rock formations of Isalo.

We will hike through the canyons and oases of Isalo and its lunar landscape to reach some waterfalls. This environment was formed during the Jurassic age and where the unique flora has evolved adapting to the existing conditions. During that hike, we will see different species of lemurs, including the world famous ring tailed lemur. After the canyons, we will go to different places to see a panoramic view of the landscape. We will have several opportunities to take a dip or simply admire the natural swimming pools and waterfalls. We will contemplate the sunset over the famous window of Isalo.

We leave Ranohira to reach Ifaty. But on the way, we stop at the botanical garden of Antsokay arboretum for a visit of one hour. By the way, it is important to mention that there are more than 900 species of endemic plants in the South of the Island. We take our lunch in Tulear, and then we drive to Ifaty. Dinner and night at hotel Ifaty Beach Club or similar

A relaxing day: Optional possibility of different occupations (whales watching from July to October, diving, excursion at the spiny forests, etc …) Dinner and overnight at the hotel

Exit to leave the southern part of the big island to Fianarantsoa. On the road, admiration of other varieties of baobab alley and the arid landscape of the south with the famous Mahafaly tombs.
